Russia's Supreme Court has ruled that a Moscow court's decision to arrest Platon Lebedev in 2003 was illegal on procedural grounds.

The review was done in response to a ruling two years ago in the European Court of Human Rights that found Lebedev's rights had been violated during his arrest and pretrial detention.

Lebedev's attorneys stated that the Supreme Court's ruling does not bear any implications for the current trial of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev.

However, according to Defence attorney Yelena Liptser, today's ruling will make it possible for future claims to be considered by the Supreme Court.

Lebedev's attorney Vladimir Krasnov highlighted that his defendant was kept behind bars instead of being able to participate in the investigation procedures against him.
