Robert Amsterdam, a member of the international defense team for Mikhail Khodorkovsky, comments in The Guardian on the importance of British Foreign Secretary David Miliband raising Khodorkovsky's case during the visit.

Amsterdam states: "There are few more effective ways to express concern about rule of law than to publicly draw attention to the importance of human rights defenders and rule of law advocates where due process falls woefully short." And notes that Khodorkovsky's trial is a good example of this is "is quite symbolic in the way that Russia approaches law and order, democracy and human rights."
