Oreshkin: Verdict of Khodorkovsky Trial Will Tell Who is in Power
In an interview for Ekho Moskvy Radio, political analyst Dmitry Oreshkin comments that Medvedev "has gradually been strengthening his positions" and that the verdict at the current trial of Mikhail Khodorkovsky would show who - Putin or Medvedev - has the "final say" in Russia.
Oreshkin said: "It seems to me that, depending on the verdict, one can reach a conclusion as to who in reality controls power in the country. If again there is the same severe and to a considerable degree crazy verdict, this will mean that Putin's team has the final say in major decisions being taken. It is quite clear to Medvedev - a lawyer by education and by way of thinking - that this trial seems like some sick fantasy. I think that he, less than anyone, wants to be involved in this trial and be responsible for it."
