NATO Expels Two Russians Accused of Spying
Two Russian diplomats were expelled from NATO headquarters in Brussels over allegations of spying.
Clifford J. Levy from The New York Times reported that this happened while NATO and Russia restarted talks in their first formal contacts since Russia's war with Georgia in August 2008. Russia's NATO Ambassador, Dmitri O. Rogozin, said that the expulsions were a "clear-cut provocation" and denied Russia's engagement in spying. He added that Russia would retaliate. Russia is expected to expel two Western diplomats in response - but the larger question is "whether it will once again break off official ties with NATO".
