Commenting on Vladimir Putin's statement on Mikhail Khodorkovsky at the annual phone-in Q&A session, Vadim Klyuvgant, Mikhail Khodorkovsky's defense attorney, said:

"Over the last 5 days, the Prime Minister has commented on the issue twice. But it is curious how his response relates to the question. Specifically, Putin was asked:
'When are YOU going to free Khodorkovsky?'

In his response, Putin does not make any corrections to this question, therefore admitting that it is up to HIM to decide whether Khodorkovsky should be freed or not.

I would also like to stress that Khodorkovsky has never been accused of any of the things mentioned by Vladimir Putin."
