In an interview for Radio Liberty, Mikhail Khodorkovsky's mother, Marina Khodorkovsky, said:

"Just as in the first case, I have never concealed my attitude to this second case. It is being held on the orders of Putin and Sechin. The second case is needed in order to ensure that Mikhail never comes out of prison. Evidently they are afraid of something. As concerns the lawsuit brought by Kuchma, they want to bring these dirty accusations out before the hearings start in order to create the impression that my son is not only a thief but also a rapist and a degenerate."
