Khodorkovsky Statement on Hunger Strike
Mikhail Khodorkovsky issued the following statement on the conclusion of his hunger strike on May 19, 2010:
I am pleasantly surprised by efficiency of support of civil society, information openness of the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Supreme Court.
In a situation when it is officially declared that President Medvedev is informed about the essence of the problem, I do not consider it necessary to insist on the form of discussion within government structures.
I am convinced that now the position of Chairman of the Supreme Court, which he promised to inform to the public, as well as court decisions in particular cases, will reflects position of President of the Russian Federation as the author of the bill - the guarantor of rights and freedom of citizens of Russia.
The purpose of appeal is reached. Hunger strike is stopped.
I sincerely thank all who has supported me.
Change of my personal position as the requirement, was not put forward by me.
I consider it is necessary to make further changes in the Criminal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and law enforcement practices in order to reduce opportunities for lawlessness and corruption, and the united efforts of all who are genuinely interested in the modernization of Russia.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky
