Mikhail Khodorkovsky, Platon Lebedev and their lawyers made a statement following the tragic death this weekend of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and almost a hundred other of the country's senior officials, in an airplane crash near Smolensk of Russia:

"The airplane crash near Smolensk that took away the life of Lech Kaczynski, his wife and those of the members of the Polish delegation, has shaken the world. Poland and its citizens today receive condolences, and we want to join those. The Katyn tragedy [massacre] of the 1940 has now got yet another mournful dimension. This is painful."
