After having been transferred from a maximum security penal colony, standing on the witness stand while handcuffed to a prison guard, and understanding that any word that was beneficial to Messrs. Khodorkovsky and Lebedev could harm him, Mr. Malahovsky told the truth about YUKOS, which could only irritate the prosecution.
