American foreign policy experts and rights activists have urged President Barak Obama to address the issue of democracy and human rights at his meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev this July. The letter calls on Obama to meet with rights campaigners and opposition leaders while in Moscow and "assert the universality of human rights and the link between democracy and security," adding that there needs to exist "a commitment by both countries to democracy and human rights."
