Evgeny Yasin: It Is Not in the Interest of Russia’s Government to Delay the Trial Any Longer
Evgeny Yasin, the Supervisor at the State University, the High School of Economics and the Director of the Expert Institute in Russia believes that the government should find a compromise in the current trial against Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev, he said: "The most reasonable thing to do would be to find a compromise."
Yasin added:
"The importance of building the rule of law in our country is obvious. Still, in the Khamovnichesky court they make fun of the law. This undermines people's faith in the law and a fair trial will once become stronger than the anarchy and interests of the governors."
"In the first trial, the accusations against Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev were more than weird. I am sure that since they were supported by qualified legal experts, they broke no law then either."
"I believe that the trial against Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev will remain a key event in the history of the Putin's reign. Not the best way to be remembered, indeed...I believe a compromise should be reached. They should admit that the crimes in the second trial have not been proved, and let the accused finish serving their sentences given in the first case against then."
