The EU Steps in to Mediate in Russia-Ukraine Gas Row

European energy ministers met in Sweden to discuss the potential of another gas row between Russia and Ukraine. EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs said: "Definitely, we consider that the probability exists. We are taking all the necessary measures, not only to resolve the issue but also to prepare in case of an emergency." The EU will be joined by Russia, Ukraine and several international financial institutions to secure a loan for Ukraine to pay its gas bills to Russia.
