Yuri Schmidt to Discuss "Free Words" in Paris
Marking the French release of the book "Free Words" by Mikhail Khodorkovsky and published by Fayard Publishing, famed Russian lawyer and member of the Khodorkovsky defense team Yuri Schmidt spoke in Paris to a packed audience at the Globe bookstore on September 27th.

Close to the dissents of the soviet era, especially Andrei Sakharov, Yuri Schmidt created, in 1991, the Committee of Russian lawyers for the defence of human rights. Since the end of the 1980s, he has participated in numerous political trials. After the assassinations of Galina Starovitova and Serguei Louchenkov, he has represented their families in all their legal proceedings. Since 2004, he has taken over the defence of Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
Yuri Schmidt has won numerous awards including from Human Rights Watch and the International Federation of Helsinki, and will be speaking in Russian. The translation will be done by Galia Ackerman who translated his book.
