Viktor Gerashchenko, Chairman of the Soviet and then Russian Central Bank during much of the Perestroika and post-Perestroika periods, comments on the trial after visiting the courtroom.

"Well, what can I say, it is shameful and ignominious! I do not understand what the prosecutor and the assistant prosecutor were trying to get out of today's witness by asking him those stupid questions and what that proves in this case. As I understand, the entire court hearing has been going on like this."

Therefore, when people say that there are no just trials, they are absolutely right, and I agree with them.

He adds that Prosecutor Lakhtin appears unqualified and urges Khodorkovsky and Lebedev not to lose heart, because sooner or later, justice will triumph.
